What is an easy way to brush my dog's teeth?

My dog won%26#039;t let me brush his teeth, I bought dog tooth paste and a brush. He is scared of it. Help his breath stinks!

What is an easy way to brush my dog%26#039;s teeth?
I had exactly the same problem with my dog, she is a lil dog scared of everything... paranoia is an understatement...

OK firstly get ur dog to like the actual toothpaste. I did this with my dog for a whole week just letting her lick the paste off my hand.

then i progressed onto putting the paste onto the brush and letting her lick that...yet again another few days lapsed.

Then i began putting the brush into her mouth with the paste on it and getting her to eat the paste with the brush inside her mouth.

3 weeks later (and tons of patience) i can now gently brush her teeth.... but i built up gradually from brushing a few teeth to eventually brushing all her gnashers.

Patience is a huge virtue with dogs.. hope this helps
Reply:yes it does work if you have a dog that likes to be pampered because my dog hates it!!!! Report It

Reply:Please be warned if you want to try %26quot;Greenies.%26quot; They%26#039;ve been linked to the death of some dogs...

So just to be safe, I wouldn%26#039;t try %26#039;em. I believe leelennox%26#039;s answer is the best way to go.

Good luck! Report It

Reply:I have a Lab and a Border Collie I give them both Greenies and once every 6 months I give them a special crew that the vet gives me... Report It

Reply:Secondly try giving your dog a bone or raw meat like whole chicken legs. It will clean them up.

Dogs are pack animals like wolves and they chew on bones and sticks to clean their teeth. Brushing a dog%26#039;s teeth is completely unnecessary. Animals live off nature. Not Dog Chow and toothpaste. Report It

Reply:I agree with Chris O. Brushing is totally unnecessary. Good biscuits will do the job naturally. However, please don%26#039;t give your animal chicken bones. Beef and pork bones are okay, but chicken bones splinter and can hurt the animal internally. Report It

Reply:Oh, PS. how much sense does it make to let your dog swallow flouride? We%26#039;re not supposed to swallow it, so I%26#039;m guessing they probably shouldn%26#039;t either. Unless of course, your dog knows how to spit :o) Report It

Reply:I second Greenies....they work wonders.....best to get the larger sizing than your dog requires.

Most of those %26quot;pet toothpaste%26quot; products say poultry paste....ew? I bet it%26#039;s not helping clean those puppy teeth! Report It

Reply:The easiest way to brush a dogs teeth is to get the finger brush. just slip it on your index finger and start brushing. you can also try C.E.T. chews from ur vets office. they are a little more expensive than regular rawhide chews, but they last forever. Report It

Reply:How about put toothpaste all over a cat?

Just kidding... Report It

Reply:i have to give it 4 dog brush bones a week because we found rs on the side of the road and it had REALLY bad breath. so try that it should work. Report It

Reply:I have a 90lb German, Austrian trained K-9, obidient, loving, loyal to a fault, BUT HE LET ME KNOW, NO BRUSH, beef leg bone with marrow! Report It

Reply:Greenies is a proven fact that it is very harmful to your dog. Check CNN.com, type in greenies and watch the video. Check out companiondental.com they sell dental dog treats at a great price. Report It

Reply:its just like brushing your dogs teeth, you have to give the treats 2-3 times a week. they work wonders Report It

Reply:,WE HAVE A NICE FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WHO LOVES ANIMALS BUT WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY WOULDNT COME.SO I STARTED BREAKING A MILKBONE IN HALF AND GIVING THEM JUST A BITE EVERYTIME THEY CAME IN..NOW I DONT HAVE A BIT OF PROBLEMS WITH THEM AND I GET TO CONTROL HOW LONG THEY STAY OUTSIDE.GOOD LUCK. Reply:HOW WOULD YOU BRUSH A DOG TEETH ? Report It

Reply:Well I don%26#039;t have a dog but if I did I would take this advice. I want a dog so badly! They are super cute Report It

Reply:Give him a dentabone. Those fight badbreath and plaque. If dogs really needed toothpaste for thier teeth they would have hands.
Reply:Don%26#039;t waste your time or money on dental products for pets.....as dumb as this sounds, there are dog foods specifically designed to clean his teeth as he chews.

Get him some rawhide chew toys too!
Reply:Put the tooth paste on your finger and let him lick it. Then gently open his mouth and brush a little. Constantly stopping to give him a treat, and reassuring words. like %26quot;good dog%26quot;.... It might take awhile for him to get used to it. But keep trying, and remember to try and make it positive, if you get mad or upset, the dog will pick up on it. If he gets nervous, just stop for a few mins, and try again. :) good luck!

Reply:Well there is a bone u can get that will clean his teeth and for his breath umm u can get doggy mints!! For reall mints for dogs.
Reply:One word for you: GREENIES

They are shaped and look like toothbrushes, and they%26#039;re green, and they are for brushing your dog%26#039;s teeth. My dogs breath could kill a grown grizzly bear before I started giving them Greenies to chew on. They just chew on them and eat them, and it does all the work for you. I got mine online, but I think Wal-Mart or Target has them too. They%26#039;re kinda expensive but well worth the money...trust me.}}}}}}
Reply:Did you get a finger toothbrush? More dogs will tolerate that. Be very gentle and patient and only do a bit at a time at first. He%26#039;ll get used to it.
Reply:just brush em
