Brushing Dog's Teeth?

Okay, my dog has really bad breathe. I was thinking of brushing my dogs teeth. My aunt did that with her dogs, and it helped a lot. Is there a certain way to do it? Do they have dog safe toothpaste? Any advice would be great!

Brushing Dog%26#039;s Teeth?
Dogs toothpaste is called raw bones. It helps them clean their teeth themselves. Removes tartar and also cleans the gums.

There is dog toothpaste out there but if the teeth are bad then it%26#039;s not going remove tartar and won%26#039;t help the gums.
Reply:you can get these cute little dogteeth cleaning sets at pet shops, they%26#039;ll include this little bristley thing that pops on your finger like a thimble, and I believe it comes with a bit of dog toothpaste
Reply:Yeah! At petco and petsmart and probably most pet places, they have a pack of toothpaste a toothbrush and all those things. But YES, there is a dog-safe toothpaste which i would recommend getting. They also have dog breath mints! =D
Reply:They make tooth brushes and tooth paste specifically for pets. Brushing is actually a healthy thing to do for dogs although you can give raw meaty bones instead with the same results.
Reply:Brushing his teeth will help, but you might want to take him to the vet and schedule a professional teeth cleaning first. Then start with the brushing. You might also want to get some things that he can chew on, like hard rubber toys, or rope toys. These help keep the tarter down and the gums exercised. My dog loves to chew on the rope pull toys and he also likes greenies. He gets one of those a day and his breath is fresh and his teeth are clean. I also brush his teeth occasionally.
Reply:I bought a tube of dog toothpaste and a toothbrush with it. I use it everyday on my lab who has awful breath. It seems to make a big difference. I just brushed like you would your own teeth. I noticed her teeth were whiter and her breath was better but i have to do it everyday. If i miss a couple days her breath gets really bad again!

I also bought doggie breath freshener. That helps for a little while too!
Reply:You should brush his teeth anyway, I know it sounds crazy to the average person, but dogs get tarter and tooth decay just like humans. I would suggest starting it at a very young age, but if he is older, you may want to get him %26quot;Greenies%26quot; or there are products at Petco that are designed just for bad breath as well as tarter build up etc. for dogs teeth. You can not use human toothpaste, but there are kits that come with the toothpaste and brush together. Good Luck!
Reply:Raw bones are great, but please : do not give them in combination with kibble. Raw meat and bones digest at a much faster rate than kibble and you will have Very Major Stomach Drama if you don%26#039;t allow enough space in between the dog%26#039;s meal and raw bones.

You can buy finger toothbrushes and dog safe toothpaste, as well as drops to put in the dog%26#039;s water, at most pet supply stores.

Good luck!
Reply:at PetSmart they sell a small kit, it comes with this funky 3-headed toothbrush and dog toothpaste the brush is made so you can get their teeth...

if you do them twice a week or more it ususlly helps..

and fyi they also sell YIP YAP doggie breath mints somewhere, but im not positive where
Reply:as some of the others said you may want to take your dog to have a cleaning done first(depending on how bad his teeth are). you can get toothbrushes and pastes for dogs at walmart as well as pet stores or the vet. you can also go to the baby isle and get the %26quot;finger toothbrush%26quot; for babies if you prefer those.i would also suggest getting some denta bones or breath freshener bones/treats as well(will really help with plaque). you can also get an additive for you dogs water thats suppose to freshen breath too but i never tried it so you may want to ask your vet about it.

when you do go to brush your dogs teeth you want to start slow. put the paste on your finger first and let your dog get used to you putting your fingers in his/her mouth. then when he/she is used to that, just brush a little at a time with the brush and always remember to encourage your pooch and praise him/her. make it as enjoyable an experience as you can so it will go much easier! even find her favorite treat (one of the dental treats for plaque removal) that she likes the best and let her have that after as a reward! hope that helps!
