His teeth, mainly in the very back, have a green/brown shell covering his tooth. His breath is horribly indescribable. I used to be able to scrape it off, and that was the only way to get rid of it and make his breath smell a little better. It%26#039;s getting harder, and he%26#039;s being even more stubborn and pushing my hand away, and I realy don%26#039;t want t hurt him. His gums are swollen and red and I%26#039;m so afraid that they hurt him, like when he eats. I think he has like dog gingivitus. I brushed his teeth once, and there was soooo much blood, and I can%26#039;t bare to put my dog through pain. But, I will if it will make his teeth healthier and less painfull. Should brush his teeth often, maybe like every other day, so his teeth and gums become stronger and healthier? This was my idea, but I wasn%26#039;t sure and just wanted to check on it. And if i should brush his teeth, is there a certain dog tooth paste that can be used? Please helpp!! Thanks.
I think my dog%26#039;s teeth are rotting.?
The best thing to start with is a professional dental cleaning from your vet. He will give your dog anesthesia, and scrape and polish the teeth. The ones that are rotted and broken will be pulled out. Ask your vet how to properly brush the teeth with pet-friendly toothpaste only and a SOFT kid-sized brush. Ask them to show you how to properly do it since there is a little bit of a system. You have to get your dog used to it. Like, starting out with rubbing paste on his teeth with a finger. After a few days, move up to another level. You cant just force him down to brush because he won%26#039;t tolerate it if it%26#039;s never been done before. But brushing now won%26#039;t do much til you get them cleaned. The shell over his teeth hold bacteria in and you cant break that down with toothpaste. If you dont get the cleaning, the gums will begin to recede and bacteria can get into the bloodstream where they can settle in other organs and cause blood infections. Right now, if his gums are red, inflamed, and bleeding, the infection will follow soon. Start with calling your vet and getting a dental cleaning. Then move on from there.
Reply:Take him to a vet for a good dental cleaning.
how old is the dog? WHat food does he eat? Can or kibble?
Reply:You vet can pull his tooth if its that bad. It must be hurting him. Think about it. They can also put him to sleep and give him a thorough teeth cleaning.
Reply:You need to take him to have his teeth cleaned by a vet. He will need to be put under for this, but it%26#039;s well worth the money. Bad teeth and gums can lead to may health issues including problems with the heart.
Once this is done not only will his health benefit, but his breath will be much sweeter too.
Once done brush his teeth a couple of times a week with dog toothpaste.
Reply:Send him to the vet and they will deeply clean then and make them better than before. they will als tell you if he has any diseases. After they clean his teethe be sure that you
Brush his Teeth

Reply:u need to spend the money and take ur dog to the vet to have them professionally cleaned. they will put him under and clean them deep and very well. also this could be because of his food. if he is on a wet or soft dog food then his teeth will always be like this. switch him to hard after he has his teeth cleaned. my vet does a very good job on my dog and his teeth have been fine since so really think about spending the money to have them cleaned by the vet. it is well worth it
Reply:Your vet might be able to give him something to make him relaxed and comfortable while professionally cleaning his teeth. If not, he might be able to refer him to a special dog dentist. My friend is a dentist and gave me a scaler and I clean both my dogs teeth. It took a while to train them to hold still, but since it does not cause them any pain, they willingly get their teeth scaled now. It%26#039;s an important things. Bad dental health can spread and cause overall bad health. I strongly urge you ask your vet. Good luck.
Reply:Obviously ur dog need vet attention!U need to seriously get ur dog to the vet right now, sounds like ur dog has not had proper nuttrion also.u need to ask the vet how to give ur dog the right foods and get ur dogs teeth cleaned.
Reply:The infection is pretty serious, hurry her to the vet
Reply:I would say take him to the vet for a good cleaning. When humans get gingivitis they have to go to the dentist to get it taken care of. It isn%26#039;t something that you can take care of at home. Well that is the same with a dog. Once the vet gives him his cleaning then he will be able to explain to you on what you need to do in the future to prevent it again.
Reply:Take it to the vet. Then you can go to the local pet store and buy some Greenies. They are treats for dogs that clean their teeth. If you give it to it daily, then it%26#039;s teeth will be shiny clean.
Reply:Really....at this point you need the vet to clean them and THEN start brushing them. If you had rotting teeth, do you think a tooth brush would really do the trick?????
And you know, animals with severe tooth/gum infection are prone to kidney and heart infections from the mouth infection. They can die from it.
Reply:Sounds like he might have and infection. Because of the smell. First of all he might need antibiotics to cure the infection and there are medicated toothpastes for for dogs. he need a through cleaning at the vet. And routine cleaning at home.
